West Lothian - News

WEST LOTHIAN YOUNG BOWLERS ASSOCIATION
CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
SUNDAY 7 SEPTEMBER 2008

Another year and once again we had a very closely fought competition from the start. In the first round the games were very close and this continued through the quarter, semis and final.
The semi finalists this year were Connor McKendrick, Greg Baldry, Paul Cairney and Christopher Brown.

Rain stopped play during the semi finals and after a short wait, deliberation by Executive Committee and discussion with the four players involved, all semi finalists decided that they wanted to continue with the competition rather than postpone to another date.

The finalists were Paul Cairney and Greg Baldry.

After another close game, the winner was Greg Baldry.

The 13 champions from within the West Lothian District who entered our annual Champion of Champions Competition on Sunday 7 September 2008 were:

Armadale - Nichola McConnell
Bellsburn - Christopher Brown
Broxburn - Lisa McMaster
East Calder - Greg Baldry
Glenmavis - Dean Welsh
Harrysmuir - Paul Cairney
Kirkliston -  Robbie Cuthell
Middleton Hall - Connor McKendrick
Newbridge -  Gavin Nicol,
Oakbank - Paul Forrest
Ratho - Christopher Morier

West Lothian trail to Macduff continues...?
(posted 14/8/05)

The story continues of the West Lothian trail to Macduff...

On Sunday 7th August 2005 we travelled to Kinneil for the County Playoffs against Central East, Central West and Greater Glasgow.

Unfortunately at the end of the day the wheel fell of the West Lothian bus at just outside Aberdeen, and it will not reach Macduff!

The winners of the playoffs were Central East.

On behalf of West Lothian, I congratulate Central East and wish them all the best on 10th September 2005.

West Lothian Young Bowlers going on trail to Macduff
(posted 27/07/05)

The trail so far.....

Starting in May, when our weekly competitions begin, the selectors are looking for a pool of 25 players in order to make a final selection for the County playoffs.
This is a very hard decision as there is a lot of very good young talent within the District.

The pool has been selected and the first trial game was on Tuesday 5th July 2005 - WLYBA were invited by East Calder Bowling Club who are celebrating their centenary to field a team against their youth section.

A very tight game ensued with the WLYBA being the eventual winners on the night.

The second stop on our tour - Wednesday 13th July 2005, Newbridge Bowling Club - when five clubs within the District (Newbridge, Buchan Park, Armadale, Bankton Mains and Middleton Hall) were asked to put a team up against the WLYBA squad. Again, the WLYBA came out winners by 85-60.

The third stop on our tour - Saturday 23rd July, Bathgate Bowling Club - when we challenged  the West Lothian Ladies County Team. This has been an annual fixture over the past five years (last year no game due to World Bowls), with the score standing at 2-2.

Once again, a very good tight game was played, and I am pleased to say that the WLYBA were the winners 68-50. The score is now 3-2 to the Young Bowlers.

The next stop on our tour is on Sunday 7th August 2005 at Kinneil Bowling Club, in the District Playoffs....
